Portee Station provides guests with four and a half star accommodation on a 23,000 acre sheep grazing and wool growing property. The Victorian Homestead, built in 1873 on the floodplain of the River Murray, is in the wetlands, allowing the abundant birdlife that inhabit the slow flowing stream and age old rivergums, to provide an educational experience in a unique, tranquil, and restful setting.
Portee is now managed as a shining example of nature based tourism, joining primary production, commercial enterprise, and the natural environment, to sustain the features of each.
The development of Portee as a tourist destination provides guests with "experience" opportunities, combined with comfortable accommodation. The Station demonstrates, in some part, the atmosphere of early Australian Station life.
